There was a time when I was so taken by the new Battlestar Galactica that when I saw a picture of recreator Ronald Moore I thought, “Now there’s a good looking man. I want to be that cool!” He’s looks like, at best, combination of Barry Gibb and Doug Henning. No one is more ashamed of this than me.
A lot of time has passed since the last new episode. A lot. In the meantime they’ve been showing reruns. A lot. In the middle of the night. On a Saturday when you are either asleep or drunk. Why he or the Sci-Fi Channel is trying to kill the show I don’t know. But watch one episode of the new “Flash Gordon” Or Leprechaun 4: In Da Hood and you’ll think that 2 am start time is perfectly reasonable.
Season 4 doesn’t start until sometime in 2008. The last new episode was March 2007. My love is the same but the Doug Henning-like magic is wearing thin. Like any long term relationship my mind is beginning to wander. There’s always old episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation but I know it’s just a rebound. We still love each other but have grown apart. There’s no other really hot sci-fi shows on so I guess I’ll stick with Galactica.
Even George Lucas made “The Star Wars Holiday Special” between the first (3rd) and second (4th) movies. Though he’d deny paternity like a contestant on ”Maury.” I love that special like it’s my own. The new Battlestar mini film is on tonight. It’s going to have to romance me a little in order to win me back. I know it’s just going to run out on me again afterward. But maybe if we work things out this time, I can make it change. I know I can.
